## 4.41 The Frame and Its Parts

Overall length and width, and the handle, stringed area, head, shaft and throat.

### Test 1: The racket frame, its size and its five named parts

- A racket is at most 680 mm long and 230 mm wide overall. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.1)
- The handle is the part of the racket intended to be gripped. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.1.1)
- The head is the part that bounds the stringed area. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.1.3)
- The shaft joins the handle to the head, through the throat where there is one. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.1.4)
- The throat connects shaft and head if present; a racket may be made without one. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.1.5)
- The stringed area is the part with which a player is intended to hit the shuttle. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.1.2)
- Overall length may not exceed 680 mm; 220 mm of width is within the 230 mm limit. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.1)
- Read Diagram C from the grip upwards and the parts come in this sequence. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.1, Diagram C)
- 35 mm, 40 mm, 75 mm, then 230 mm. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.1, 4.2.2.1, 1.1, 1.8)
- The frame may not exceed 680 mm in overall length. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.1)

## 4.42 Strings and Attachments

The flat crossed strings, their size and throat extension, attachments and shape-changing devices.

### Test 1: The strings, their limits and what a racket may carry

- The stringed area is flat and made of crossed strings. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.2.1)
- Crossed strings are either alternately interlaced or bonded where they cross. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.2.1)
- The stringed area may not exceed 280 mm in length and 220 mm in width. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.2.2)
- Strings may extend into the throat if the extension is no wider than 35 mm. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.2.2.1)
- With an extension, the overall length of the stringed area may reach 330 mm. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.2.2.2)
- Objects used solely to distribute weight are allowed when reasonable in size and placement. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.3.1)
- A racket must be free of any device that lets the player change its shape materially. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.3.2)
- 35 mm, 220 mm, 280 mm, then 330 mm. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.2.2)
- Law 4.2.1 covers flatness and crossings, 4.2.2 the size, and 4.2.2.1-4.2.2.2 the extension. (Source: BWF Laws 2027, Law 4.2)
