## 56.562 The Procedure

The 5:00 mark, charging, and minimum and maximum time-outs.

### Test 1: When and how they are granted

- Ideally the media time-out is taken before the game clock shows 5:00 or less in the quarter. (Source: FIBA OBR 2026, Appendix E, E.3.1)
- It is granted at the first opportunity when the ball is dead and the game clock stopped. (Source: FIBA OBR 2026, Appendix E, E.3.2)
- That time-out is not charged against either team. (Source: FIBA OBR 2026, Appendix E, E.3.2)
- A team time-out before 5:00 is used as the media time-out and also counts as that team's time-out. (Source: FIBA OBR 2026, Appendix E, E.3.3)
- There is a minimum of 1 time-out in each quarter. (Source: FIBA OBR 2026, Appendix E, E.3.4)
- Six at most before half-time: two per team and one media per quarter. (Source: FIBA OBR 2026, Appendix E, E.3.4)
- Ideally before 5:00, but there is no guarantee that this shall be the case. (Source: FIBA OBR 2026, Appendix E, E.3.1)
- At the first dead ball after 5:00, a media time-out is granted and charged to nobody. (Source: FIBA OBR 2026, Appendix E, E.3.2)
- An early team time-out doubles as the media time-out and still counts for the team. (Source: FIBA OBR 2026, Appendix E, E.3.3)
- With no time-out before 5:00, a media time-out comes at the first dead ball with the clock stopped, charged to neither. (Source: FIBA OBR 2026, Appendix E, E.3.2)
