## 13.131 What an Attack Hit Is

The definition and completion of an attack hit, tipping, and where front-row and back-row players may attack from.

### Test 1: What an attack hit is and who may make it

- Any action directing the ball towards the opponents is an attack hit, apart from the service and the block. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.1.1)
- A tip is legal provided the ball is cleanly hit rather than caught or thrown. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.1.2)
- Completion comes when the ball has completely crossed the vertical plane of the net or is touched by an opponent. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.1.3)
- Front-row players may attack at any height provided the contact is within their own playing space. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.2.1)
- At take-off the back-row player's feet must neither touch nor cross the attack line. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.2.2)
- Having hit legally, the back-row player is allowed to land within the front zone. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.2.2.2)
- Any ball moving towards the opponents is an attack hit, so with no team-mate able to play it the block is legal. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.1.1, 14.3; Casebook 2024 3.33)
- Only in C is the foot fully behind the attack line; A and B touch it and D is in the front zone. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.2.2.1)
- The attack hit is only completed once the ball has crossed the net or an opponent has touched it. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.1.3)
- The front zone lies between the centre line and the attack line; a back-row attacker takes off behind that line. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 1.4.1, 13.2.2)

## 13.132 Attack-Hit Faults

Back-row attacks in the front zone, attacking the service, the Libero's attacks and sets, with Casebook situations.

### Test 1: Attack-hit faults

- From the front zone a back-row player may attack only a ball that is partly lower than the top of the net. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.2.3, 13.3.3)
- If part of the ball is lower than the top of the net at contact, the attack from the front zone is legal. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.2.3)
- Completing an attack hit on the opponent's service in the front zone, with the ball wholly above the net, is a fault for any player. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.2.4, 13.3.4)
- The ban covers serves attacked in the front zone; a contact made behind the attack line is legal. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.3.4; Casebook 2024 3.35)
- A Libero's attack hit is a fault only when the ball is entirely higher than the top of the net at contact. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.3.5)
- An attack completed from higher than the net on a Libero's overhand finger pass in the front zone is a fault. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.3.6)
- The ball neither crossed the net nor touched a blocker, so the attack hit was not completed and play goes on. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.1.3, 13.3.3; Casebook 2024 3.34)
- Only in B is part of the ball below the top of the net; in the others the whole ball is above it. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.2.3, 13.3.3)
- The set became an attack hit when it was completed by the block, so it is an illegal attack by a back-row player. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.1.3, 13.3.3; Casebook 2024 3.32)
- The fault exists once the attack hit is completed: the ball crosses the net or touches an opponent. (Quelle: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 13.3.6)
