## Test 1: Crossovers

- Badge 8 asks for five consecutive forward crossovers, counterclockwise and clockwise. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.8: Badge 8)
- For crossovers the head, shoulders and arms turn into the centre of the circle. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.8: Badge 8)
- Start with a standing crossover at the barrier: lean, cross the foot over, hold, lift the back foot and return. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.8: Badge 8)
- Backward crossovers start from skating backward with half-swizzles on the circle. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.10: Badge 10)
- Leaning too far forward makes the toe picks scratch; bending the knees puts the weight over the ball of the foot. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.10: Badge 10)
- Leaning into the circle puts the blades on the correct edges for crossovers. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.10: Badge 10)
- The outside arm is forward over the circle and the inside arm up and back, hugging the circle. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.6: Badge 6)
- From half-swizzles the skater glides on two feet, crosses the outside foot over, then lifts the other foot off its outside edge and back down. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.10: Badge 10)
- Forward one-foot swizzles on a circle come in badge 6, forward crossovers in badge 8, backward crossovers in badge 10. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.6, 5.8, 5.10)
- C is two circles touching in the middle, one skated each way. A is a single circle, B a straight line, D a zigzag. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 6.2: Level II)

## Test 2: Edges on a circle

- From a two-foot glide the outside leg lifts and its toe comes to the heel of the skating foot. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.8: Badge 8)
- Leaning the body into the circle with ankle pressure, and bending the knees, puts the blade on the edge. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.8: Badge 8)
- On the forward inside edge the free arm is forward and the skating arm back, the opposite of the outside edge. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.9: Badge 9)
- The starting position is held for half of the semicircle; then the free leg comes through and the arms change. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.11: Badge 11)
- The guide asks for the weight to stay on the heel through the entire edge. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.11: Badge 11)
- The arms change by passing down close to the hips and back up into the new position. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.11: Badge 11)
- Hold the initial position for half of the semicircle and pass the arms down close to the body. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.11: Badge 11)
- Each edge starts with a push from a T, is held for half the semicircle, then the free leg comes forward, the arms change and the foot opens for the next push. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.11: Badge 11)
- The forward outside edge is badge 8, the forward inside edge badge 9 and consecutive backward edges badge 11. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.8, 5.9, 5.11)
- D changes at the top of the semicircle, halfway round. A changes at the start, B a quarter of the way, C at the very end. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.11: Badge 11)

## Test 3: Backward edges and circle drills

- Each backward edge starts with a half swizzle on the back inside edge, pushing onto the back outside edge. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.11: Badge 11)
- The head looks to the inside of the curve, over the tracing, before turning out halfway round. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.11: Badge 11)
- At the halfway point the free leg comes slowly back to the heel of the skating foot as the arms change. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.11: Badge 11)
- Backward one-foot swizzles keep the knees bent and the weight on the balls of the feet. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.8: Badge 8)
- Only the outside foot swizzles, on its inside edge, while the other glides on its outside edge. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.6: Badge 6)

- A half swizzle pushes onto the back outside edge, held with the head inside, and halfway the free leg returns and the arms change. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.11: Badge 11)
- With the arms hugging the circle, the skater glides on two feet and swizzles with the outside foot alone. (Source: Special Olympics Figure Skating Coaching Guide (2021), 5.6: Badge 6)
