Field Hockey · Law 7: Ball Outside the Field · Insporta Book (https://book.insporta.app/pl/field-hockey/laws/law-7-ball-outside-the-field/)

When the ball is out of play, which team re-starts and where, over the side-line and over the back-line.

## 7.71 The Side-line and Who Re-starts

The ball out of play, the last touch, side-line re-starts and an attacker's ball over the back-line.

### Test 1: The ball over the side-line, and who re-starts

- The ball is out of play only once it has passed completely over the side-line or the back-line. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.1)
- A player of the team that was not last to touch or play the ball re-starts play. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.2)
- Play re-starts at the place where the ball crossed the side-line. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.3)
- A side-line re-start follows the procedures for a free hit. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.3)
- The defending team re-starts with the ball up to 15 metres from the back-line, in line with where it crossed; the free hit procedures apply. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.4 (a))
- The re-start goes to the team that did not touch the ball last, here the light team. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.2)
- A ball resting on or spinning along the line is still in, as the lines belong to the field. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rules 1.8, 7.1)
- The other team, light, re-starts where the ball crossed; the umpire's raised arm shows the direction. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rules 7.2, 7.3)
- Only a ball wholly over the line is out; the umpire shows the direction and the re-start is a free hit from that spot. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rules 7.1-7.3)
- Dark touched the ball last, so light re-starts. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rules 7.2, 7.3)

## 7.72 Over the Back-line off a Defender

Accidental and intentional plays over the back-line by defenders and goalkeepers.

### Test 1: The ball over the back-line off a defender

- An unintentional play over the back-line by a defender re-starts on the 23-metres line in line with where it crossed. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.4 (b))
- Rule 7.4 (b) puts a goalkeeper's deflection in the same group as a defender's accident. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.4 (b))
- An intentional play over the back-line by a defender, other than a goalkeeper's deflection, gives a penalty corner. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.4 (c))
- Because the ball lies on the line, the free hit provisions for the 23-metres area apply. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.4 (b))
- Under 'Applying the Rules', if the action is clearly intentional umpires should not hesitate to award a penalty corner. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Introduction, Applying the Rules (Rule 7.4 c))
- A kick is a deliberate act, and the goalkeeper's exception covers deflections only. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.4 (c))
- The defenders touched it last, so the attackers re-start on the 23-metres line. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rules 7.2, 7.4 (b))
- Spot 2 lies on the 23-metres line straight out from X; spot 3 is where an attacker's ball would re-start. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rule 7.4 (b))
- On the back-line, up to 15 m out, then on the 23-metres line. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rules 7.4, 13.3)
- The corner is taken from the back-line inside the circle, at least 10 m from a goal-post. (Źródło: FIH Rules 2027, Rules 7.4 (c), 13.3)
