## 10.101 Crossing the Net

What bounds the crossing space, when and how a ball sent outside the antennae may be played back, and the lower space.

### Test 1: Crossing the net and playing a ball back

- A ball sent to the opponent court must go over the net within the crossing space. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.1)
- Below it is the top of the net, at the sides the antennae and their imaginary extension, above it the ceiling. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.1)
- A ball from the team's first hit may be retrieved and returned outside the antennae, within the three hits. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.2)
- Only a first-hit ball may be played back; from the second or third hit it is out the moment it crosses. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.2.3)
- The returning ball must cross the net plane again through the external space on the same side, or it becomes out. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.2.2)
- The play-back is allowed only if the player does not touch the opponent court, except as Rule 11.2.2.1 allows at the centre line. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.2.1)
- Such a ball stays in play until it has completely crossed the vertical plane of the net. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.3)
- B returns outside the antenna on the same side; A crosses inside the crossing space and C goes round to the other side. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.2.2)
- The ball must come from the first hit, go back through the external space on the same side, and the team then plays on within its hits. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.2)
- The crossing space starts at the top of the net; an antenna rises 80 cm above it; the ceiling closes the space. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.1, 2.4)

## 10.102 The Ball in the Net

A ball touching the net, recovering it within the three hits, a ripped net, and play-back situations from the Casebook.

### Test 1: The ball touching and in the net

- Rule 10.2 lets the ball touch the net while crossing. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.2)
- A ball driven into the net may be recovered, but only within the limit of three hits. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.3.1)
- Recovering from the net counts within the three hits, so the net does not reset the count. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.3.1)
- No team member, coach included, may prevent an opponent from playing back a ball that crossed outside the crossing space. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.2.2; Casebook 2024 3.13)
- The ball becomes out once it has completely left the space above the free zone and entered the space over the opponent court. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.2; Casebook 2024 3.1)
- Same side is the condition: across by the other antenna, or inside them, the ball is out. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.2.2)
- A serve may brush the net on its way over; the touch changes nothing. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.2, 12.6.2.1)
- If the ball rips the mesh or tears the net down, the rally is cancelled and replayed. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.3.2)
- A ball recovered from the net is still part of the same three-hit count. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.3.1)
- A play-back that does not return through the external space on the same side becomes out. (Źródło: FIVB OVR 2025-2028, Rule 10.1.2; Casebook 2024 3.1)
