- A conversion may be a place-kick or a drop-kick. (Source: World Rugby Laws 2026, Law 8.7)

## 8.83 Goals, Penalty Goals and Dropped Goals

What makes a goal, kicking a penalty at goal, the opponents' duties, and dropped goals.

### Test 1: Goals, penalty goals and dropped goals

- A penalty goal can be scored only from a penalty. (Source: World Rugby Laws 2026, Law 8.18)
- Once the intention is shown (telling the referee, the tee or sand arriving, or a mark), the team must kick at goal. (Source: World Rugby Laws 2026, Law 8.20)
- Within 60 seconds of playing time from indicating the intention; otherwise the kick is disallowed and a scrum given. (Source: World Rugby Laws 2026, Law 8.21)
- From the start of the approach until the kick, the opponents stand still with their hands by their sides. (Source: World Rugby Laws 2026, Law 8.22)
- If the kick fails after the opponents infringe, the non-offending team gets a penalty 10 m in front of the mark. (Source: World Rugby Laws 2026, Law 8.26-27)
- After a free-kick, no dropped goal until the ball next becomes dead or an opponent has played or touched it or tackled the carrier. (Source: World Rugby Laws 2026, Law 8.29)
- Over the bar and above the posts, the kick succeeds if it would have passed between taller posts. (Source: World Rugby Laws 2026, Law 8.5; Law 6.25)
- The intention binds the team, and the 60 seconds run from that point. (Source: World Rugby Laws 2026, Law 8.19-22)
- A dropped goal is a goal kicked from a drop-kick in open play. (Source: World Rugby Laws 2026, Law 8.28)
