Level 7 is the sport's canon: the specific people, days and feats a knowledgeable follower is expected to name and place. The great batters, from Bradman's Test average of 99.94 through Hobbs, Sobers, Gavaskar, Viv Richards, Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Sangakkara and the modern fab four, with their landmark innings and the first-class 501 not out. The great fast bowlers: the West Indian battery of the 1970s and 80s, Lillee and Thomson, Wasim and Waqar and reverse swing, Donald, McGrath and Steyn, the longevity of Anderson and Broad, and the 400 to 700-wicket milestones. The great spinners, all-rounders and keepers: Warne and Muralitharan to 700 and 800, the Ball of the Century, Kumble's 10 for 74 and Laker's 19 for 90, the 1980s all-rounder quartet, and the wicketkeeping standard set by Gilchrist, Healy and Dhoni. Iconic matches: the 1960 and 1986 Tied Tests, Headingley 1981, the 1999 World Cup semi-final tie, Kolkata 2001, Edgbaston 2005, Johannesburg 2006, and the 2019 World Cup final and Headingley 2019. Landmark feats and famous moments: six sixes in an over, Lara's 400 not out, the ODI double-hundred, record collapses, hat-tricks and the 1981 underarm delivery.

Written from
ESPNcricinfo's records and Statsguru for averages, aggregates, milestones and match scorecards; the Wisden Almanack for historical standing and context; ICC and board material for records held under their competitions. Level 7 covers datable, named, record-bearing facts, so every keyed answer is verified against these sources. Questions are authored from them, not reproduced from them.
