Il Capitolo 9 guarda agli affari e al pubblico dietro l'hockey su prato: gli sponsor sulle maglie, i campionati a franchigie, i premi in denaro e l'organizzazione della Coppa del Mondo maschile del 1986. Gran parte riguarda l'hockey indiano, ma tocca anche il percorso dell'Irlanda ai Mondiali e la FIH Pro League.
L'Odisha divenne sponsor delle nazionali dell'India nel febbraio 2018 e in seguito prolungò l'accordo fino al 2033. Il governo dello stato approvò il prolungamento nell'aprile 2023, dopo che gli uomini dell'India avevano vinto un bronzo, la loro prima medaglia in 41 anni. La Hockey India League si disputò per cinque stagioni, si fermò per sette anni e tornò nel 2024-25 con squadre femminili. Le sue aste trattavano i giocatori come i giocatori di cricket, con le squadre dotate di un budget fisso come nell'Indian Premier League.
